Medical Mission

EnuguUSA medical mission is a humanitarian all year event for medical mission of mercy embark by Enugu state indigenes in America to address medical issues in the remote areas of the state. The team takes off the second week of December of every year to give free medical care to our impoverished men, women, children and elderly in the state. The team visit as many local communities as possible treating minor medical problems, diagnosing major problems, making medical referral and even follow ups.
The team has recently introduced primary care through its health and wellness committee. They collaborate with medical and nursing schools around Enugu educating them on current trend in disease management, including but not limited to CPR, health education, breast healthcare and cancer awareness, etc.

The medical get huge support with the state government and state ministry of health as well as volunteer support from local Medical schools of medicine and Nursing and allied health professional.

War on poverty

War on poverty is the newest project that has been embarks in EnuguUSA Association/ EnuguUSA medical mission to address the health problems in the state that may arise through nutrition imbalance. As a result of HIV/AID, many women and children are left with adequate nutritional intake. Through the women affairs committee, the team came up with idea of providing assistant and employment to impoverished women, donating grinding machine to 24 local government areas of the state. It is expected ted that these women will use this machine to grind minor grains and in turn they will raise the fund to finance their every day basic nutritional needs.  Again this humanitarian mission takes place during December periods.  The mission was overwhelmly supported by the men and women of Enugu during the 2011 convention in Boston Massachusetts with donations of 54 grinding machines from people of Enugu State.

Health wellness and CPR education initiatives

In 2008 under the leadership of the then President of EnuguUSA Prof. Uzochukwu, health and wellness committee was enacted to address the issues of preventive care and education. The committee headed by a medical doctor and team of nurses gives preventive health talks during medical mission in the rural setting. They offer training the trainers CRP education to team of local Doctors and Nurses, hoping that they will take it to their local area of practice and continue the mass education of their colleagues’ and patients, family and friends.

Environmental Education Awareness

EnuguUSA during its medical mission trips attempts to address the issues of environmental pollution in the state and how it is tied to disease causing and carcinogenic incidences to the residents of its environs.
In epidemiology, environmental disease is disease caused by environmental factors that are not transmitted genetically or by infection. Apart from the true monogenic genetic disorders, environmental diseases may determine the development of disease in those genetically predisposed to a particular condition. Stress, physical and mental abuse, diet, exposure to toxins, pathogens, radiation, and chemicals found in almost all personal care products and household cleaners are possible causes of a large segment of non-hereditary disease. If a disease process is concluded to be the result of a combination of genetic and environmental factor influences, its etiological origin can be referred to as having a multifactorial pattern.
There are many different types of environmental disease including:

• Lifestyle disease such as cardiovascular disease, diseases caused by substance abuse such as alcoholism, and smoking-related disease
• Disease caused by physical factors in the environment, such as skin cancer caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight
• Disease caused by exposure to chemicals in the environment such as toxic metals
• These diseases can also be mutated and can thrive in the unnatural environment through rubbish that isn't discarded and no sewerage systems. These factors can hurt a nation or an individual quite easily.
